Publication Ethics

At Imkanat, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical responsibility in scholarly publishing. Our publication ethics are guided by internationally recognized principles of academic honesty, fairness, and accountability. These guidelines apply to authors, editors, reviewers, and all individuals involved in the publication process.

Our Commitment

Imkanat is dedicated to publishing original, accurate, and well-researched work that contributes meaningfully to scholarship and public understanding. We expect every participant in the publication process to uphold the principles of honesty, objectivity, respect, and professional responsibility.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting work to Imkanat are expected to:

  • Submit original and unpublished work.
  • Ensure that their manuscript is not under consideration by another publication at the same time.
  • Accurately present research findings without fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting.
  • Properly acknowledge all sources through appropriate citations and references.
  • Obtain permission for any copyrighted material used in their work.
  • Disclose any financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest.
  • Notify the editorial team promptly if a significant error is discovered after publication.
  • Respect ethical standards when research involves human participants, sensitive data, or confidential information.

Originality and Plagiarism

Imkanat maintains a strict policy against plagiarism.

The following practices are considered unethical and unacceptable:

  • Copying another person’s work without proper attribution.
  • Self-plagiarism or duplicate publication without disclosure.
  • Improper paraphrasing intended to conceal copied material.
  • Fabrication or manipulation of references.
  • Misappropriation of ideas or research findings.

All submissions may be screened using plagiarism-detection tools. Manuscripts found to contain substantial plagiarism may be rejected, returned for revision, or withdrawn after publication if necessary.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring a fair, transparent, and impartial publication process. They shall:

  • Evaluate manuscripts solely on academic merit, originality, relevance, and quality.
  • Maintain editorial independence.
  • Preserve the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.
  • Avoid discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, political views, or institutional affiliation.
  • Manage conflicts of interest appropriately.
  • Take reasonable steps to investigate ethical concerns or allegations of misconduct.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Where editorial or peer review is conducted, reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and respectful evaluations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts.
  • Complete reviews within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Identify relevant published work not cited by the author.
  • Disclose any conflicts of interest that may affect their judgment.
  • Refrain from using unpublished information for personal advantage.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose any relationships or interests that could influence, or reasonably appear to influence, the publication process.

Potential conflicts may include:

  • Financial interests
  • Employment or institutional affiliations
  • Research funding
  • Personal or professional relationships
  • Political or organizational commitments

Where a conflict exists, appropriate measures will be taken to ensure an impartial editorial decision.

Research Integrity

Authors should ensure that:

  • Data are accurately represented.
  • Research methods are honestly described.
  • Conclusions are supported by evidence.
  • Statistical analyses, where applicable, are presented accurately.
  • Images, figures, and tables are not manipulated in a misleading manner.
  • Where research involves human participants, sensitive data, or vulnerable groups, authors must confirm that appropriate ethical clearance was obtained from a relevant institutional review board or ethics committee, and must disclose this in their manuscript.

Any form of research misconduct will be treated seriously.

Corrections, Retractions, and Withdrawals

Imkanat is committed to preserving the integrity of the scholarly record.

Where necessary, the Editorial Board may publish:

  • Corrections for significant factual errors.
  • Clarifications where misunderstandings arise.
  • Retractions in cases of proven misconduct, plagiarism, or unreliable findings.
  • Editorial notices explaining any substantial amendments or withdrawals.
  • Imkanat will also comply with lawful directions or orders issued by competent government authorities or courts of law requiring the removal, correction, or restriction of access to any published content, in accordance with applicable Indian law.

All such actions will be carried out transparently and in accordance with established ethical standards.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative Tools

Authors may use artificial intelligence or generative writing tools to support language editing, proofreading, or formatting. However:

  • Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their work.
  • AI-generated content must not replace original scholarly analysis or intellectual contribution.
  • Any significant use of AI tools in preparing a manuscript should be disclosed where appropriate.
  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

Intellectual Property

Authors retain the copyright to their original work unless otherwise agreed.

By publishing with Imkanat, authors grant the magazine a non-exclusive license to publish, archive, distribute, and promote their work while ensuring full attribution.

Ethical Violations

Allegations of publication misconduct will be investigated fairly and confidentially.

Possible actions include:

  • Requesting clarification or correction.
  • Requiring manuscript revision.
  • Rejecting the submission.
  • Retracting published work.
  • Temporarily restricting future submissions from individuals responsible for serious ethical violations.
  • Notifying relevant institutions where appropriate.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers, sponsors, donors, or external organizations.

Acceptance or rejection of a manuscript is based solely on its academic quality, originality, relevance, and compliance with the magazine’s editorial standards.
